God teaches us to fight

on September 28, 2022

Psalm 144: 1

Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight (KJV).

Christians believe they should not fight. Physical fights are a no go. Violence is not on. Yes that is right but we also acknowledge that we face spiritual, emotional and social battles, which we have to fight. We are also aware that to fight means that we resist and stand firm for what is right or what is ours. It means that we oppose what threatens our existence. It means that we hold on tight to what is dear and near to us and that we refuse to give up, knowing that God is on our side. We stand up for access to basic needs like food, shelter and health, and fight with a hunger and thirst in our hearts for love, acceptance, faith and freedom. Our God hears us as we cry out to him and God continues to shape us to fight. This shaping can be tough at times but we come through our battles with new skills, renewed strength, purged and moulded. Do not lose hope or give up but stand firm and fight knowing that the battle is won.
