Gifts from Our Father (3): Giving

on July 11, 2013

Gifts from our Father (2)  was about “Gentleness and Compassion”. I realised how vulnerable I am after publishing the message. I was tested immediately after writing the message and I had to call forth gentleness and compassion and had to ask: ”What would Jesus do in a similar situation?” To be honest with you I haven’t mastered anything for sometimes the flesh overcome. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to repent and today I am looking forward for a new day of moving in “Gentleness and Compassion”. I believe that I will get there slowly but surely.

They [mercies] are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness (Lam 3: 23).

Today I want to talk about an amazing Gift from Our Father – the Gift of Giving

The Gift of Giving

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6: 38).

This is not an easy gift to talk about because we should not declare or publish our giving. That said, I need to state that I am grateful for people who published methods or way that we can give because I learnt from them as well as from the Word and now I am able to move in this gift.

I belong to a denominational church where we believe in “pledge” instead of tithing. I by choice decided to tithe though my church does not expect it. I believe in seed time and harvest. I believe what you sow you shall reap and I believe that my source is my God not my pay check. I am living proof of the fact that my pay check cannot sustain or provide for me. I believe that the Lord wants us to extend ourselves to others by means of giving. Giving can have many forms and does not include money only.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.(Malachi 3: 10)

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone (Matthew: 23: 23).

Yesterday I saw a group of young boys. They were strangers to me. I could see that they came from a disadvantaged background. I bought myself some sweets and realised how kids at that age would also enjoy some. So I approached their supervisor to asked permission to buy them too some sweets. The supervisor told me that the kids came from what we call “Boy’s Town” a school or home for kids with social or behaviour problems. Their stories reminded me of how fortunate my kids are to have a safe home and loving parents.

I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20: 35)

Everyday – if you asked- the Lord will create opportunities for you to bless other people. You will find opportunity to share your time, your love, your food, your clothes or your money with people. That is if you ask the Lord to create these opportunities or if you declare to the Lord your willingness to participate in His gift of Giving.

He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given (Proverbs 19:17).

Some of us though we are more fortunate then other in terms of material things we long for other things. What we need might be acceptance of friends or family. We might need the things that money cannot buy. I found myself in a situation recently where I felt isolated and rejected because I did not want to give people more money. I thought I had a strong relationship with these people but when I refused to give more the love or close relationship was broken. In hindsight it looks like I have bought their love because when the money stopped the love stopped. Today the relationship is restored on better terms, which include giving on my terms.

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back     (Luke 6: 34).

I often minister to people who are financially challenges. My advice for them is:  Give … Give…Give. We should sow a seed for what we want in life. For an unemployed person I usually advise volunteering for a worthy cause. I believe the effort will bring rewards and open doors. I have realised that there are many ways to give and many causes to give to. I support and give to the elderly, kids, youth, the disadvantage, and those poor in spirit by means of Christian literature. I also give my time to those who need ministering and donate to outreach programmes. There are so many opportunities for you to give. Pray to the Lord to show you what to do, ask Him to open doors for you. With the Lords divine guidance we can serve and give cheerfully to those in need.

Enjoy your day giving to others. Enjoy your day reaping the rewards of your giving.

If you need a prayer or personal prophecy please write. For personal prophecy I request only your name and a private email address. This gift is free. God Bless
