THE FOUR FACES OF GOD

on July 5, 2011

Rev 4 : 6- 7 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. 8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’[b] who was, and is, and is to come.”

Ezekiel 1 : 10- 11

10 Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a human being, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. 11 Such were their faces.

The above scriptures have also been referred to as the four faces of God. Scholars relate this to the character of God as depicted by the four gospels. In the book of St Matthew God’s character is described as that of a lion or king; in St Mark we see the character of God as an ox or servant; in St Luke we see the character of God as a man and in St John we see the character of God as an eagle.

Whilst studying this text I was surprised by the blessings that this text hold. I would like to call it the blessings of the four faces of God.

The character of God describes as a man holds the following blessings:

· He understands our pain and suffering because he went through it. We can stand the pain and suffering of life.

· He understands our needs – being hungry.

· He understands temptation- tempted by Satan

· Exposed to sin but do not practise sin

The character of God describes as a lion holds the following blessings:

· He embodies majesty as the son of the King of kings

· We can rule as sons and daughters of the King of Kings

· We are co-heirs, seated with him on the throne

· He make our enemies footstools

· We are clothed in fine clothes, eat fine flour, adorned with gold and jewels- in fact He calls us a beautiful jewel ( Eze 16)

· We have his strength, authority and power

The character of God describes as an ox holds the following blessings:

· To be able to serve without complaining

· To be able to have a heart for those in need- humility

· To care for the sick, poor and broken hearted

· To have compassion for the needy and the widow

· To wash the feet of those who serve with you or those who serve God.

The character of God describes as an eagle holds the following blessings:

· This resembles being high and lifted up

· Being able to sour above the storms of life where it is quiet

· Having the weak under your wings to protect and take care of.

· Traveling through life without being weary- feeling renewed and full of life.

· Your vision is clear from afar- the Lord reveals things for you

· Renewed strength

· Being able to reinvent yourself through Christ – you are a new creation in Christ.

You are blessed you with all spiritual blessings in the heavens. We examine our lives to find these blessings evident in our lives.
